Get to Know Me
I am Damion Johnson, an Artist Teacher at Berkeley Center of the Arts. As an artist, I have been professionally operating for over fifteen years. I am a South Carolina native, born into a loving family where I was one of five children. Very humble beginnings proved to be the mother of the creative nature I possess. My artistic journey formally began under the watchful eye of my middle/high school art teacher/uncle. I then studied and earned my BA in Professional Art from Claflin University. In my present works, I employ what I've coined as "The capturing what is felt Ideal", wherein song lyrics, phrases, and emotions are transformed into visual statements. Collage-style compositions where figures exist on different planes in very involved ways, explain the character of my creative style. I operate under the understanding that "It is He, not Me who is creative" In turn, I give honor to God for he is the one who is truly creative and artistic, and we are the reflection of such.
